Sutra Gallery presents 'Framing Odissi' by Malaysian based photographer, Ganasundaram.

'Night of Purnama' (vintage 1989) was Odissi history in the making. Many who had seen this work was touched by the poetry of presentation and interpretation by collaborators and performers that made 'Night of Purnama' a major and original Malaysian production of the highest calibre. The collaborators included artist Liew Kung Yu who designed the splendid set inspired by the Natyamandap (dancehall) of Konark; lighting designer Gunaselvam and performers included actor Mano Maniam, and dancers Geetha Sankaran, Mavin Khoo, Suchitra Narayanan and Roopa Lavania.

Most of the photographs were of the second season. Rhe first season would have featured the 'les enfants terribles' of Sutra then - Jayanthi, Gunaletchumi and the 6-year old dance prodigy Suganthi.

Many actors lend their voices to this production - Fatimah Abu Bakar, Sukania Venugopal, Sabera Shaik and Mano Maniam.

Even then, 20 years ago, we could take the large PJ Civic Centre on a 4-day season!

You are welcome to the opening of 'Framing Odissi' on 16 March (Tuesday) at 8.15 pm, officiated by Datuk Rose Ganendra. But try not to miss the opening dance!!!
