Description:
Fresh from the enjoyment of traditional dance in 'Main Zapin', ASWARA is pleased to announce Gelombang Baru - Koreografer Muda (The New Wave - Young Choreographers) presenting its students in a completely different light - contemporary dance! This annual choreography performance aims to provide a platform for young choreographers of Malaysia especially those who train at ASWARA. It is not easy to find a venue and present ideas to an audience but it is a most crucial aspect to developing the craft of choreography while building an audience.
For this installment, the Faculty of Dance, ASWARA has selected 8 NEW works to be showcased. Each work is approximately 10 minutes long.
The choreographers are:
1. Suhaili Ahmad Kamil and Dhanya Thurairajah - these two young award-winning artists have decided to collaborate for the first time.
2. Azizi Mansor and Ng Xinying - two of the most talented and promising young dancers have a created a beautiful duet.
3. Fairul Zahid - an up-coming young dancer/choreographer most recently seen in 'Carmen' and 'Main Zapin' in 'Not only me'
4. Gloria Patie - a young Sarawakian who enjoys exploring ideas and movement in 'Muat ke tidak'
5. Naimsyahrazad Zin - an explosive dancer / choreographer working within contemporary vocabulary, also seen in 'Carmen' and 'Main Zapin' in '4 seasons'
6. Fione Chia - an extremely intelligent young choreographer who is always prepared to the last detail for 'Awake'
7. Hanafi Rosdi - has developed a passion for exploration of video and dance in 'Waiting'
8. Nurul Durar Halim - a first-time choreographer is inspired by people's obsession with the occult in 'Vodoo'
For those who are curious about a career in dance, the Faculty of Dance ASWARA invites you to join the workshops and performances by the young for the young (at heart)!
