Malaysia Open Dance Fest ’09 is an International Dance Competition organized by World Dance Academy in aid of Persekutuan Kanak-kanak Istimewa (PKKI) Children Disabilities Day Training Centre.

The competition is opened to all individuals and team categories for Line Dance, Hip Hop, Belly Dance and Poco-poco Dance. Winners of each category will receive cash prizes, trophies, and certificates.

The morning session started at 10.30am, which included Line Dance Individual Junior, Line Dance Individual Newcomer, Line Dance Individual Open, Line Dance Individual Crystal, and Line Dance Individual Diamond. These were followed by Poco Poco Team Open, Line Dance Team Crystal, Line Dance Team Junior, Line Dance Team Senior, Line Dance Team Open, and Line Dance Team Crystal.

Lunch break was at 1pm - a lunch box and a bottle of drinking water were included with the tickets sold at RM40. In between the lunch break, music was played, and dance enthusiasts were allowed to dance in the hall. The winners of the morning session were announced after the lunch break.

It was a hot afternoon indeed, and it did not help that the air-conditioner in the hall broke down. However, the seats in the hall were still full. The heat certainly goes up when the afternoon session resumed with the Belly Dance Troupe Open, Belly Dance Individual Newcomer, Modern Jazz Team Open, Modern Jazz Individual Open, Hip Hop Team Junior, Hip Hop Individual Beginners, Hip Hop Individual Kids, and Hip Hop Individual Junior.

I was fascinated by the dance participants, their dances and costumes despite their age! You can see the dancers at any age you can imagine! They were so passionately engaged in the dances. I personally liked the line dance and belly dance team category - their costumes and teamwork were admirable.

The eventful Dance Competition ended after the afternoon prize presentation. The selected finalists will be competing in the Grand Finals the following day at the Grand Ballroom Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.
