Dance Performances Spellbind the crowd
Maya, a dance competition, illuminated the University Plaza with spectacular sights and sounds on Saturday, August 22, 2009.

The dance competition was participated by seven universities including Limkokwing University, HELP University, Multimedia University, INTI college, KDU college, Masterskill University, Taylor’s College and Sunway University. All were vying for the top spots as the best dance performers.
Four awards were conferred that night, including three top spots and the Most Popular Dance Group award. The first, second and the third spots were given to Masterskill University, MMU Melaka and Help University respectively. Masterskill University also won the Most Popular Dance Group award.

The event was to support the 1Malaysia Campaign, and the President of Limkokwing Indian Cultural Club and also the Director of Maya, Vicram Lachumanan felt that culture is meant to be shared, not to be owned.
“I would love to see unity under humanity, not by races,” said Vicram Lachumanan. “Maya in Sanskrit means illusion. The concept behind Maya is to dance to reality, to make an illusion of unity into a hopeful yet concrete realisation.”

The event, which was organized completely in-house by Limkokwing’s Indian Cultural Club, was immensely successful. Maya drew a staggering amount of crowds of more than 3,000 attendees concentrated at the Limkokwing Plaza including distinguished guests, such as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Senator A. Kohillan Pillay, Goa Movie Director Venkat Prabhu, AF (Akademi Fantasia) Choreographer Linda Jasmine, and I-Passions owner Shaila Nair.
Tiffanee Marie Lim, the Special Assistant to Tan Sri Lim, said in her opening speech, “This event is proof that students are able to pull through a massive-scaled event in a very professional manner. In fact, this competition is one of the most professional events I have ever seen in such a long time.”

In the event, the crowd was dazzled and danced along to the tunes of artistes such as Dr. Burn, K-town Clan, GoldKartz, Twisted Edge, and Chinese Dance group “V”. K-town Clan debuted their new album, Playground.
As part of the event, there was a car exhibition sponsored by Malaysian Indian Motorsports Association (MIMA), and also a fashion show sponsored by I-Passions. The fashion show sent down the catwalk 20 international models who are Limkokwing University students. The models come from around the world such as Iran, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Palestine, Syria, Cambodia and USA as Limkokwing University is a place for 30,000 students from 145 different countries.
