Description:
NANTA Cookin’ is an energetic non-verbal comic musical performance combining the traditional Korean percussion performance Samulnori, vigorous acrobatic movements and drama. The actors do not speak: they communicate using body movements, facial expressions and a series of sounds made from whizzing knives and other kitchen utensils. NANTA Cookin’ promises to be a feast for the senses.

NANTA Cookin’ made its first performance in Korea in October 1997. It made its international debut in 1999 at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and received an award for best performance. Since then, there has been no looking back for NANTACookin’. Its world tour had taken it to UK, Germany, Austria, Italy, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, the Netherlands, and many more. In March 2004, NANTA Cookin’ made its way to New York and had a successful one-and-half year run at Broadway, making it the first Asian show to open its own off-Broadway theatre.

Synopsis

In a kitchen, three Chefs (Head Chef, Sexy Chef and Hot Sauce) are preparing to cook for the day when their ill-natured Manager dropped a bombshell: cook for an unplanned wedding banquet which must be ready by 6pm AND teach his young and bumbling Nephew how to cook.

What unfolds in next 90 minutes is an amazing display of story-telling of the three Chefs (with the Nephew getting in the way) racing against time to prepare for the banquet. Things that can go wrong will go wrong and the Chefs (and the Nephew) have to put things right for the Banquet. They slice through the air (using sharp knives), beat chopping boards while rhythmically cutting up vegetables and perform impossible acrobatic maneuvers.
