Description:
Two pieces by Nina Marthavia: Geurangsang and Woe (Homecoming) will be presented in this performance. Geurangsang illustrates some of the trials in life that women of Aceh experience, in the forms of injustice, violence, harassment and attacks on their dignity. For them, sorrow and suppression are not obstacles in their struggle. With all of their energy and courage, they don’t just give up, but continue to struggle without fear, even though their lives may be at stake. While Woe tells of women’s experiences losing people who are closest and most dear to them. In the end, a willingness to accept whatever happens, together with prayers and continually remembering the Almighty, enables them to get through all of their loss and sorrow. The dancers involved in this production are Grace Suzan, Verawaty, Dilliani, Andara F Moeis, Bogie Sierra, and Poppy Parissa.
